Trout BFS Lure

Minnow = Trout BFS Lure

Minnow (jerkbait style hardbait) is the core application in trout bfs.

Lure weight ranges of 3-7g are the most commonly used in most places.

Small creeks with slow-moving currents, less than 3 inches deep, may require lighter than 3g, and heavier than 7g is necessary for fast-moving heavy current rivers.

Replacing trebles with single barbless hooks changes the weight balance slightly and also changes the amount of water resistance, but both changes are minimal and most minnows can take the change without decreasing performance and most importantly, the use of the single barbless reduces damage to the fish and significantly increases the fish’s survival rate.

Before entering the field, it is absolutely necessary to check the field regulations for the permitted types of hooks.

Single barbless makes trout bfs more challenging game and epic fun.

Sinking minnows are the basic choice for the upstream approach, but floating minnows may perform better in the downstream approach, as a general idea.

Active fish usually react to up-cross (upstream) approach and down-cross approach can become highly effective in certain conditions, such as sudden temperature drop and decrease of water clarity.

Up Cross and Down Cross Approaches

Popular lengths of minnows are 45mm to 65mm, with 50mm being the standard size in most places.

Trout mainly feed on insects, occasionally crawdad and small fish.

But their natural habits of reacting fast-moving lure which makes trout bfs so effective.

50mm minnow attracts almost every size trout but only can equip #6 size single hook at largest (varies by hook eye spacing) so upsizing the minnow is ideal when targeting large trout that requires larger and stronger hook.

There are plenty of lure colors to choose from.

Bright colors help anglers visualize their cast and minnow movement in the water, while subtle natural colors often become extremely effective to larger, clever fish or under high angling pressure conditions.

It is a good idea to categorize colors into bright, vivid, natural, and silvery shades.
