Trout BFS Rod

Trout BFS Rod

Creating the US-specific trout BFS rod is our first project for Barva Kopel.

The decision was made after experiencing an extremely low landing rate of wild fish over 20 inch.

We have imported and used many JDM trout bfs rods and discovered that landing ratio for 20 inch and larger was only 20%.

*The exception is the model used by anglers in Hokkaido for large wild fish

Strong wild fish easily rips their lip by hard head-shakes and jumps or underpowered rod simply cannot stop fish from tangling obstacles.

In fact, there are many excellent JDM models to target smaller fish and they are pleasure fun to use.

And those JDM models inspired us to build our own, they are treasure to us and we truly respect all the brands very much.

As an alternative experimental study, we’ve used many bass rods, but the downside of using non-specific rods is that they wipe out the fun factor in the trout bfs game.

One of the most attractive elements of trout bfs is to build the game using most-finesse equipment that is specifically built, especially the rods that conveys everything to the angler.

The challenge of achieving our ideal US-spec model is to fine-tune the balance between cast performance and fighting-ability, same time leaving the thrill of finesse elements.

The trout’s behavior makes blank modulus a crucial element.

Wild fish are excellent swimmers, sprinters and their natural instinct make them ultra-short biter.

High modulus rod offer superior lure controllability and highly responsive that is intuitive and fun to operate but landing fish is very challenging with PE line.

Full Nylon line-use increases landing ratio but loses intuitive part.

Low modulus blank dramatically increases landing ratio because of blank absorbance and most importantly fish can’t apply their fighting force against low modulus very well.

Low modulus blank also adds another layer of finesse fun.

Much softer and ultra-slow recovery rate than traditional rods in such a short length forces anglers to adjust their casting mechanism.

The blank’s resilience and extremely shortened release point, emphasized by the shortened blank, will captivate anglers who enjoys fast-paced approach.

The fun element of trout bfs is to master backhand casting with short rod.

Circle and flip casts are standard for model length under 5’5” and is ideal for casting accuracy.

Casting is one of the main fun elements of trout bfs, and this backhand approach makes this game so different from other methods of fishing.

We know that both high and low modulus series are important to trout bfs and should be selected for every angler’s priority purpose and preference.

The shorter rod makes the characteristics of the blank material more potent.

Essential to find the most suited model for your style and target fish size.
