Why barva kopel exists

The largest fish, in the smallest water, on the smallest tackle.

Trout BFS was born in Japan, on small mountain streams. American trout are bigger and stronger, even in the smallest creeks. A rod built for Japanese streams isn't built to land them. Yet there was no Trout BFS rod made for American trout. Not one.

Our roots run through both countries. Raised on Japanese water and seasoned on American water, we spent decades developing reels, rods and lures at major Japanese brands in the States, field testing on nearly every freshwater and saltwater species with both conventional and fly gear.

Before setting a single spec, we spent four years on the water defining what an American Trout BFS rod needed to be. We fished countless rods in every material, along with many Japanese Trout BFS rods.

On a single barbless hook, Japanese PE and a short nylon leader, we landed only about one in five wild trout over 20in. Most rods simply lacked the power to stop a wild fish before it reached a rock, a submerged tree or the exposed roots of an undercut bank.

The conclusion was clear: the rod had to be built for this, and only this. A short rod can only be so long, so the answer had to come from the material itself.

None of this is about making the game easier. Trout BFS should remain a test of the angler's skill. Our goal is simply to give that skill the right tool.

One of Japan's finest rod builders turned our field data into reality, and every model went through six to nine revisions before it earned its name.
