Frequently Asked Questions
About the Rods
What is Trout BFS?
BFS stands for Bait Finesse System: a finesse baitcasting method for trout, using short rods and light lures for pinpoint accuracy and direct lure control.
Which model should I choose?
The key to elevating your game is choosing the lightest power that can handle the fish in your water. Then choose the length by how much casting distance your water requires.
See the chart on each product page for the recommended fields and target fish sizes for every model.
What reel and line do you recommend?
We recommend a BFS-specific reel. Japanese-rated PE line, size 0.8–1.0, with a nylon leader is our standard setup, balancing strength and casting performance. The ideal line varies by model.
What is UD glass, and why use it?
UD (unidirectional) glass is a low-modulus fiberglass blank with its fibers aligned in one direction. It bends deeply, so trout struggle to use their force against the rod, which raises your landing rate, even with PE line. It also recovers fast, for crisp, accurate casts.
It also handles bending and impact better than carbon, and in a short rod the character of the material comes through even more.
Orders & Shipping
Where do you ship?
We ship within the U.S. (excluding Hawaii and U.S. territories), Canada and Japan. We plan to add the EU and other Asian countries as interest grows, so let us know where you are.
How long does shipping take?
We usually ship within 1 business day of your order. The delivery times shown at checkout already include that day and vary by destination. See our Shipping Policy for details.
Can I return a rod?
We accept returns with prior authorization. Please read our Refund Policy for details.
Warranty & Care
What does the warranty cover?
Please see our Rod Warranty page for full coverage details.
What if I break a rod?
Every rod is inspected by hand before it leaves the factory. Compared with carbon, a UD glass blank generally stretches further before it breaks, so it handles bending and impact better. That's why most breaks are caused not by defects in materials or manufacturing, but by how a rod is stored, transported, handled or used: slipping on a rock while wading, a fall from a bank, or poking the tip hard against the bottom to free a snagged lure.
Breakage caused by a defect is covered by our Rod Warranty. Accidental breakage isn't, but accidents happen, and we'll offer you a replacement at a reduced price to keep you on the water. Just contact us and we'll quote the price before you pay anything.
Do I need to register my rod?
